Do you know the fundamentals of affiliate marketing that experts follow to make sales and money?
it's vital for every new affiliate marketer to understand the fundamentals of affiliate marketing to be successful.
If you don't know these principles, you will lose your hard-earned money and time on ad spending and content creation.
So, I outlined the 7 key fundamentals of affiliate marketing that help you to go from zero to hero.
I myself have followed these fundamentals for years now and built a profitable affiliate marketing business.
So let's start...
What is a niche market?
A niche is a specific segment of a large market with its own particular needs and preferences, which may be different from the larger market.
For example,
Health is a large market, and there are different products for different kinds of health issues.
In this case, weight loss for women is a niche because it's a specific segment of the health category.
Let's see another example...
Digital marketing is a big market, and there's various digital products and software for digital marketing, but SEO is a niche market, and there are specialized products and services for SEO purposes only.
What is the best way to choose a niche?
Make sure to choose a niche that you are interested in, has some skill or expertise, and has high market demand.
Here's how to do market research to discover if your niche is popular and has market demand for affiliate products.
Step 1: Use Google Trends
Google Trends is a free marketing research tool by Google that helps you explore the popularity of a niche or topic.
This tool is perfect if you find a profitable niche for a blog or YouTube channel for affiliate marketing business.
See the example of two different niches below.
As you can see in the example above, the "personal finance" niche is more popular than the money management niche in the United States.
So, if you create a blog about personal finance, publish helpful articles on your blog, and recommend good affiliate products, you can make good money as a result.
Step 2: Use YouTube
You can use YouTube to check if your niche is popular and has high market demand for affiliate products.
Therefore, go to the YouTube search bar, type your niche keywords, and look for 10–20 related videos.
If the videos got more than 50,000 views each in one year, it shows your niche is popular.
Moreover, you can use YouTube searches to find topic ideas for your niche as well.
I use YouTube to find good topic ideas for my YouTube channel and email marketing.
Step 3: Use Social Media
You can use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to check if your chosen niche is popular.
Go to the Facebook search bar and type in your niche or topic keywords. and find 10–20 Facebook pages and groups with at least 5,000–10,000 members.
You can follow the same method for Twitter and Instagram as well to verify the popularity of your NICHE.
See the example of niche research on Facebook below.
As you can see in the example above, personal finance is popular on Facebook, and there are some groups with thousands of members.
So, now you can pick personal finance as a niche because it has already been shown in 3-step market research (Google Trends, YouTube, and social media) that this niche is popular.
An affiliate marketing course like Digital Dad will teach you how to find a profitable niche and make money consistently.
After selecting a profitable affiliate marketing niche, now it's time to choose a content platform.
A content platform allows you to create and publish content in your niche and promote affiliate products.
For example, if you have chosen personal finance as your niche, you can create a YouTube channel as a content platform and teach people about personal finance-related issues.
So in this case, you can promote personal finance-related courses, software, and systems.
Here are the top content platforms for affiliate marketing:
1. Blog
2. YouTube Channel
3. Facebook
4. Instagram
5. TikTok
6. Twitter
7. Email Marketing
Choose the content platform according to your passion, interest, skill, and expertise.
If you are good with video content, you can choose YouTube and Facebook to create content and promote affiliate products.
Conversely, if you are good with text-based content, you can select a blog as your content platform.
After selecting your niche and content platform, now it's time to create and publish content.
Always create high-quality content that addresses the needs and problems of your target audience.
There are 3 types of content:
1. Educational Content
2. Promotional Content
3. Hybrid content (Educational + Promotional)
Educational content is used to teach your target audience about a specific subject.
For example, you create a blog post and show people the 10 ways to lose belly fat.
Promotional content is used to promote a specific product or service. For example, introduce a new app to track your income and expenses.
Hybrid content is used to educate people on a specific thing and promote a related product.
For example, you can make a video on YouTube to teach people the 10 ways to lose belly fat and introduce a new supplement that can help burn belly fat quickly.
Avoid using duplicate content.
Always provide fresh and high-quality content as much as possible that addresses the needs and pain points of your target audience.
What is an affiliate marketplace?
An affiliate marketplace is a platform where businesses (known as "merchants" or "vendors") list their products or services, and individuals (called "affiliates") can sign up to promote those products.
When an affiliate successfully refers a customer who makes a purchase, they earn a commission.
For Example:
Imagine you have a blog about fitness. You join an affiliate marketplace like ClickBank, where you find a workout program that fits your audience.
You get a special link (called an affiliate link) to share on your blog. When someone clicks your link and buys the workout program, you earn a percentage of the sale.
Here are 5 popular Affiliate Marketplaces:
1. ClickBank:
Specializes in digital products like e-books, courses, and software. Affiliates can find a wide variety of products to promote, especially in niches like health, finance, and self-improvement.
2. Digistore24:
Similar to ClickBank, Digistore24 offers digital products across various niches. It’s popular in Europe and provides an easy-to-use platform for affiliates.
3. Systeme.io:
Systeme.io is a platform that combines marketing tools with an affiliate marketplace. Affiliates can promote digital products or even Systeme.io’s own services like landing pages, email marketing tools, etc.
4. JVZoo:
Focuses mainly on software and online marketing products. It’s a go-to marketplace for those promoting tools and resources for online businesses.
5. Amazon Associates:
Amazon’s affiliate program, where affiliates can promote almost any product sold on Amazon,. It’s one of the largest affiliate programs globally, offering a wide range of physical and digital products.
These marketplaces simplify the process of finding products to promote and provide tracking and payment systems so affiliates can focus on generating sales.
I recommend choosing one of these affiliate networks as a beginner and starting to promote high-quality products.
The fifth fundamental of affiliate marketing is building your email list, and it's essential for every affiliate marketer.
What is an email list?
An email list is a collection of emails from people interested in your brand, allowing you to market to them directly.
The best way to build your email list is to create an opt-in page and give people a free gift, such as an e-book, course, or report, to join your email list.
Next, you can create an opt-in form on your website and blog to collect people's emails by giving them your freebie.
If you want to learn email marketing step by step, you can download my free book here.
See the example of an opt-in form below.
Use email marketing software like Systeme.io to manage your email list and send regular email campaigns.
Email marketing allows you to communicate with your target customers directly and promote affiliate products.
Additionally, email marketing is the safest marketing channel because it protects your business if social media or search engines like Google ban your account.
What is traffic?
Traffic means visitors in affiliate marketing.
The more traffic you have, the higher your chances of converting visitors into buyers.
When you create good content on your blog or social media, such as your YouTube channel, you get traffic for free, but it takes time and consistency.
For example, it takes 6–12 months for a blog to get some traffic from search engines like Google.
So, the fastest way to make money with affiliate marketing is to run paid ads such as Facebook ads, Google ads, or other social media ads.
But running paid advertising requires some technical knowledge and investment, and if you don't know how to run ads, you may lose money.
Facebook banned my ad accounts twice because I violated their advertising policies for weight loss as a beginner.
I appealed multiple times for Facebook to reactivate my accounts, but they didn't reactivate them for me until I created a new Facebook account.
Taking a simple affiliate marketing course like Digital Dads can teach you how to run ads effectively, step by step.
1. Disclose Your Affiliate Partnership
When you promote products through affiliate marketing, it's important to be transparent with your audience.
This means you should clearly disclose in your affiliate platform, such as blog or YouTube channel, that you may earn a commission if someone buys a product through your link.
A simple statement like, "This post contains affiliate links, and I may earn a commission if you make a purchase at no extra cost to you," works well.
2. Follow Advertising Policies
When you run ads on platforms like Facebook, Google, or other social media channels, it's important to follow their advertising policies.
Each platform has its own set of advertising policies. Make sure you read and understand them before creating your ads.
Facebook has strict ad policies about what you can and can't advertise. For instance, they don’t allow misleading claims or certain types of content, like adult products or discriminatory language.
For example:
If you’re promoting a weight-loss supplement, don’t claim that users will lose 10 pounds in a week unless there’s clear evidence to support it.
3. Regularly Check for Updates
Advertising policies can change, so it’s important to keep up with any updates.
For example, a platform might update its policies on health-related products, requiring you to adjust your ad content accordingly.
What Are Consequences of Not Following the Rules?
1. Banned Ad Accounts: If you don’t follow advertising policies, your ad accounts could be suspended or permanently banned, cutting off a key source of traffic and sales.
2. Legal Issues: Failing to disclose affiliate partnerships can lead to fines and legal problems, especially in countries with strict advertising laws.
Tip 1: Create High-Quality Content
Always create content better than your competitors. Support your content with research, statistics, and proof to Show yourself as an expert and trustworthy source.
Research your competitors to find what topics got the most views, likes, and engagement to create content about.
Tip 2: Build Your Email List Fast
The faster you build an email list, the better, because it allows you to make money without permanently relying on paid ads.
When you run ads, make sure to drive traffic to your lead funnel (opt-in page) to collect emails and build your email list.
Never drive traffic directly to your affiliate offer. First capture the leads, then direct them to your affiliate offer.

Tip 3: Choose Good Affiliate Products
Always select an affiliate product that people already like and are satisfied with.
Look for the number of sales. If an affiliate product has already made 1,000 to 2,000 sales, it shows the product is popular and worth promoting.
Tip 4: Improve Your Skills
Affiliate marketing requires three essential skills:
1. Traffic generation skills,
2. Copywriting skills,
3. And content creation skills.
If you're not skilled at any one of these, you will not make sales with your affiliate marketing business.
So, taking a proven affiliate marketing course will help you to master these 3 necessary skills.
Understanding the fundamentals of affiliate marketing is crucial for success.
By choosing the right niche, creating valuable content, building your email list, and following advertising rules, you set yourself up for long-term profitability.
Remember, these basics aren't just theory—they've been tested and proven by successful marketers, including myself.
Start applying these principles today, and you'll be well on your way to building a thriving affiliate marketing businesS.
